ABOUT US
I took early retirement from the post office 19 years later.to do what I genuinely love. I grew up in South Korea and immigrated to the United States at 30. I spent nine years in Dallas, Texas, and about 20 years ago, I moved to the Pacific Northwest in search of a better place to live and new experiences. Ever since I immigrated, I have been fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Almost every weekend, I drove six hours to fish in Texas. Fishing started as a way to spend my free time, but over the years, it became the most important passion in my life. One day, when my son was on vacation, he asked me to go fishing in Westport, Washington. While fishing there, we kept catching crabs with our fishing hooks. That moment changed everything—I realized how much fun crabbing could be. My father was an inventor. He always looked at things differently, constantly searching for better ways to improve and create something new. Like my father, I began to look for a better way to go crabbing. I started watching YouTube videos and learned about crab snares. I realized that snaring could be both practical and fun, but I believed it could be improved. That’s when I decided to invent something new—something easier, more effective, and simple enough for people of all ages to use. My invention journey took three long years. My prototype was completed almost a year after I began. I went through many prototypes and faced countless problems. The biggest challenge was material strength and stability. No one had ever used stainless steel rods for crabbing gear before. They broke, bent, and welds failed. Almost every part of the snare had issues. And when it casts out something that can prevent flipping.
My prototype was very different from what it is today. I even obtained a patent for that design. In that version, the loops opened automatically when cast and tightened automatically when pulled. Although it was a snare, it worked in a completely different way. The problem was that it was tough to manufacture and too expensive to produce. After three long years of experience and experimentation, I had to postpone production. Eventually, I came up with the Glider design. It is more effective, easier to operate, and can be used more broadly. From my previous inventions, I learned that an open-concept bait system is more effective than placing bait inside a cage. I also used my imagination to make it as fun as possible. I drew designs focused on aerodynamic features and stability in the air and water. I added wings at the four corners so it could sail smoothly through the air and land perfectly on the water’s surface, and stabilize in the water right-side up. I also upgraded the hardware to ensure the quality met real-world productivity demands. This is how the Glider Snare was born—the product I truly wanted to make. I love to travel, and one of the most exciting parts of this journey is introducing the Glider Snare to others. It has allowed me to meet people who enjoy the outdoors and share the same passion—good people who love fishing, crabbing, and adventure.
